Loon Observation and Monitoring

The Loon Rangers

Loading up the raftThe Loon Rangers are a team of community scientists operating under the sponsorship of the Little Sebago Lake Association. In addition, we work under the direction of science experts at the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, Loon Conservation Associates, and Biodiversity Research Institute (BRI). The team has had extensive training from State biologists as well as other experts in the field.

Support

Nesting SingThe team supports the loon population by providing floating rafts for nesting, relocating nests up out of the rising lake’s waters from storms, and records sightings with the loon’s ID bands.

Communications

We post updates on Facebook about our loon population and welcome you to share your observations, stories and questions. The goal is education as we all work to enjoy, protect and preserve these amazing birds who call Little Sebago home.
