The Safety Patrol Program that has been reinvented for these last couple of summers has a new twist. Local law enforcement officials from the Cumberland County Sheriffs Department are now on board. The first patrol was Sunday June 29, 2008 and was very successful. The focus of the officers was indeed safety. Most of the boats that were stopped were issued verbal warnings regarding the incorrect number of personal floatation devices on board. The safety patrol boat is stocked with extra life preservers and the officers were able to hand them out as a courtesy. A few warnings were also issued for unregistered boats. Some citations were written but most received only warnings and advise.
