Lake level and dam repair update...
The replacement of the oak seals on the Hopkins Dam have
been completed by the contractor D&J Vance and fully tested by the dam
committee last Saturday. I can not
express my admiration high enough for the work done by Dave Vance and his
employees, the repairs were done exactly to permit and plan, under the harshest
winter conditions and thousands of dollars under best case expectations. The
Vance family has been Little Sebago homeowners for many years and their contributions
go well beyond this winters repairs.
The dam is open now and has been since October. The DEP
mandate of closing the dam on April 15 to begin raising the water level to the 289.2 summer level has been nullified
by mother nature who has had our water level above summer level for the past
few weeks. The strategy right now will be to keep releasing a maximum flow of
water until we can get to a -5? and then bring the lake up slowly to a full
lake by Memorial weekend. The 7 day forecast is not encouraging....
