Watershed Survey Has Begun!  News Story
Friday, May 10, 2002

On May 4th a dedicated group of volunteers, officials of the DEP, Americore and the Cumberland County Soils and Water met at Stimson Hall for a training session before heading out to assigned areas in the LSL watershed. The 3 hour training session provided an in depth insight into lake life cycles, phosphorus impact, erosion and some of the many ways to identify and fix problems. Groups were formed to cover the area which had been divided into sections and technical advisors were assigned to each group. With a spirit of anticipation and energy, the groups dispersed into the watershed areas to compile information, identify problems, document with pictures and offer solutions to problem areas. It is hoped that the survey, which included the upper lake and middle lake to Lyons Point, will be completed by the end of May. Other surveys completed on several local lakes including Sabathday, Crescent, Forest, and Thomas Pond have proved very benefical in helping improve the quality of the lake and in obtaining funds for problem areas. This is a major step in helping Little Sebago improve it's "watch list" status for lakes in the state of Maine.
