A Little More Little Sebago History  News Story
Monday, April 15, 2002

We were recently sent the following story from one of our website viewers and wanted to pass it on. Sue Morse, who spent summers on the lake from 1962 through 1980 told about an event which happened in the mid to late sixties. Sue's family had a cottage on the middle lake on Grape Isle Rd. The road ran off Ramsdell Rd. There was a boys and girls camp directly across from her cottage. She would arise to revelry in the morning and hear taps in the evening. One evening there was a fire in one of the camp's rec halls. It was spectacular. Everyone who had a boat grabbed hoses, etc. and went out to try to put the fire out. Unfortunately the fire was so large that it was impossible to get close enough to assist and the building was a total loss. Sue believes that there might still be a remaining rec hall on the other side of the cove. Shortly after the fire, the camps were sold as private homes and are accessed from Gore and Brown Rds. in Raymond. We thank Sue for this great piece of history.
